Masbate Town Allocates Free School Supplies to Over 4,100 Students

Batuan: The local government of Batuan in Masbate province will provide free school supplies to 4,101 public school learners from kindergarten to Grade 12 as part of its support for the opening of the school year 2026-2027 on June 8. Batuan Mayor Marco Martinez Cam announced the initiative aimed at alleviating the financial burden on parents while ensuring students have basic learning materials.

According to Philippines News Agency, the program is designed to address the recurring concern of parents regarding school supplies for their children. Cam highlighted that this initiative allows families to allocate their budget towards other essential expenses. He emphasized the importance of providing students with the necessary tools to enhance their learning experience.

Based on DepEd enrollment data as of May 2026, the town has 2,275 learners enrolled in elementary schools and 1,826 in secondary schools. The distribution plan includes different sets of supplies for various grade levels. Kindergarten to Grade 2 learners will receive five pads of paper, two pencils, and a school bag. Grades 3 to 6 students will get eight notebooks, two ballpens, and a school bag. For Grades 7 to 12, the provision includes 10 notebooks, two ballpens, and a plastic envelope for school documents.

Mayor Cam explained that the municipal government began the budget request last year to ensure the timely procurement and distribution of supplies before classes commence. He expressed hope that this assistance would motivate students to focus more on their studies and inspire them to excel in their education, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of Batuan.

Cam also noted that equipping students with school supplies would aid teachers in implementing classroom activities more effectively. According to DepEd records, the largest number of enrollees are from Alindogan National High School with 848 students, followed by Antonio Lee Llacer Sr. Integrated School with 503, Batuan Central School with 450, and Burgos National High School with 424.
