Marcos Inaugurates Restored Antong Dam and Irrigation System in Sultan Kudarat

Sultan kudarat: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inaugurated the rehabilitated Antong Dam and Irrigation System in Sultan Kudarat, a crucial facility that was restored following damage from successive flooding and typhoons. This restoration aims to enhance agricultural productivity in the Soccsksargen region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the project, managed by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in Lutayan town, ensures a reliable water supply to 1,563 hectares of farmland. This initiative is expected to directly benefit 355 farmers and their families from the Upper Center Lower and Baluno Irrigators Association.

The dam's rehabilitation was necessitated after severe flooding and weather events in 2021 and 2022 caused significant damage, disrupting irrigation services in key farming communities. With the facility's restoration, farmers in the barangays of Antong, Sampong, and Manili are poised to experience a stable year-round water supply, potentially improving harvests and increasing farm incomes.

Joining President Marcos at the inauguration were Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr. and NIA Administrator Eduardo Guillen.
