Marawi Hospital Threatens Legal Action Over Disinformation Claims

Marawi:The Amai Pakpak Medical Center (APMC) in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, has issued a warning of potential legal action against individuals or groups spreading false information about its operations as a healthcare provider.

According to Philippines News Agency, APMC stated that those disseminating baseless allegations, such as claims that the hospital is "killing" patients instead of saving them, could face cyberlibel charges under Republic Act 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

APMC emphasized that it will not engage in arguments on social media. Instead, concerns should be directed to their Public Assistance and Complaints Desk or the Legal Services Office. This response follows a recent social media post alleging that APMC injects a formula into patients that causes cardiac arrest, particularly targeting those unable to pay.

The hospital refuted these allegations, clarifying that as a Department of Health apex hospital, it provides free services and facilities. Financial support is available through the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Malasakit Center, and the Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients Program.
