Makati city: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reopened the southbound lane of the Magallanes Flyover to motorists on Monday, following its rehabilitation during Holy Week.
According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon inaugurated the newly repaired segment of the flyover early in the morning after the completion of the maintenance works. The rehabilitation was conducted around the clock, starting on Holy Wednesday and concluding at 4 a.m. on Monday. The reopening marks a significant improvement in traffic flow in the area, with vehicles now able to use the flyover again.
In addition to the Magallanes Flyover, Dizon also inspected the newly asphalted roads and lane markings at Taft in Pasay City. The rehabilitation aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to conduct overnight maintenance on EDSA, including the flyover, to ensure smooth traffic, reduce travel time, and save fuel for motorists.
Dizon noted that Phase 1 of the EDSA rehabilitation project is progressing well, ahead of schedule by two months. "We are happy because our road for Phase 1 from Roxas Boulevard, EDSA to Orense is practically finished. We did not compromise on its quality and our motorists will experience it," he stated.
He also mentioned that Phase 2 of the EDSA rehabilitation project is set to commence soon, with bids for the project to be invited this month. "This April, we will bid for Phase 2. The President's instructions are, to immediately start the project so as not to encounter major problems," Dizon added. The upcoming phase will extend from Orense in Makati City to Monumento in Caloocan City.
