Madis and Aludo Shine at Philta Women’s National Open

Manila: Philippine Tennis Academy (PTA) players Tennielle Madis and Stefi Marithe Aludo emerged victorious at the Philta (Philippine Tennis Association) Women's National Open held at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila. On Saturday, the top-ranked Madis outplayed second seed Aludo with a score of 6-2, 7-5 in the singles final, securing her fifth title following wins at previous tournaments including the Philippine Columbian Association Open, Gentry Open, Olivarez Open last year, and the Visayas Open in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental two weeks prior.

According to Philippines News Agency, Madis and Aludo also teamed up to win the doubles crown by defeating La Salle's Annika Diwa and Mikaela Vicencio, 6-1, 6-2, last Friday. The 18-year-old Madis, hailing from M'lang, Cotabato, expressed gratitude, stating, "I'm thankful to God for giving me the strength to win the singles and doubles." As the singles champion, she earned PHP150,000, along with PHP25,000 as her share of the doubles champion's purse.

Aludo graciously accepted her singles defeat, acknowledging, "I think that I gave my best in the singles I lost to a better player." Present at the awarding ceremony were Philta executive director Tonette Mendoza, board members Dyan Castillejo, April Toledo, and PTA founder Romy Chan, who presented the trophies and symbolic checks. The event, part of the Group A series, was supported by the Philippine Sports Commission.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the Men's Open main draw, which is set to commence on Sunday.
