LTO Summons Owner, Rider in Viral Motorcycle Stunt Video

Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned a motorcycle rider and the vehicle's owner in response to a viral video showing a dangerous 'wheelie' stunt performed on a public road. The incident, which gained significant attention on social media, has raised safety concerns.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao highlighted the stunt's risks, noting that the rider was not wearing a standard protective helmet or proper footwear and the motorcycle lacked side mirrors. Additionally, the motorcycle was discovered to be unregistered.

In light of these violations, the LTO issued a show cause order to both the registered owner and the driver, requiring them to appear before the Intelligence and Investigative Division (IID) of the LTO Central Office. They must explain why they should not receive penalties for the incident.

Lacanilao expressed concern over such actions, stating that they pose a danger not only to the rider but also to the public. He emphasized that this behavior should not become normalized or accepted on public roads.

The LTO has placed an alarm on the motorcycle involved, and the rider's license has been suspended for 90 days, requiring its immediate surrender to the LTO IID. Lacanilao underscored the importance of responsible driving, which is demonstrated through respect for other motorists rather than through risky driving skills.
