Iloilo city: The Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO-6) has revoked the driver’s license of a police officer involved in a fatal road accident that resulted in the death of a college student in the Jaro district in June.
According to Philippines News Agency, the officer has also been prohibited from applying for a new license for a period of four years, as stated in a report by LTO-6 released on Thursday. The investigation, which was led by Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II and Intelligence Chief Shiela Mae Alulod, concluded that the officer’s negligence was a direct cause of the accident.
The LTO-6 resolution highlighted that the officer’s continued possession of a driver’s license could endanger public safety. It further stated that the officer’s driving record is now flagged, and any attempt to drive during the four-year ban would result in a violation for driving without a license and lead to vehicle impoundment.
The police officer, who serves in the health service of the Police Regional Office 6, was driving an ambulance along Senator Benigno Aquino Avenue in Barangay Dungon B when it struck the victim on a pedestrian lane. The victim, an 18-year-old student, succumbed to critical injuries sustained from the incident.
