Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the driver of a tuk-tuk involved in a hit-and-run incident captured in a viral Facebook video. The tuk-tuk sideswiped a motorcycle and left the scene without stopping, prompting the LTO to issue a show-cause order (SCO) to the registered owner and driver.
According to Philippines News Agency, the SCO requires the tuk-tuk's owner and driver to provide a written explanation for potential administrative violations, including disregarding traffic signs, reckless driving, and improper operation of a motor vehicle. In addition, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced that the driver's license has been temporarily suspended for 90 days. This action aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to hold accountable drivers who violate traffic regulations.
The viral video depicts the tuk-tuk colliding with a motorcycle, causing the riders to fall. Instead of stopping, the tuk-tuk continued on Roxas Avenue, pursued by another motorcyclist who recorded the incident. The tuk-tuk driver was seen driving against traffic, alarming passengers who urged the driver to stop.
