Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued Temporary Operator's Permits (TOP) to 11 taxi units for breach of franchise during a joint law enforcement operation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Complex in Pasay City.

According to Philippines News Agency, the operation was conducted in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine National Police's Aviation Security Unit (AVSEU) on Tuesday. The operation targeted taxis involved in colorum operations, overcharging, contracting, and refusal to provide service or transport passengers to their destinations. It was led by Law Enforcement Service (LES) director Allan Nobleza and Maj. Roderick Francis Salem of AVSEU-NCR, along with personnel from the LES Field Enforcement Division and the PCG.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao emphasized that public transport service should not be an opportunity to exploit passengers, stressing the importance of ensuring that public utility vehicles comply with their franchise and provide fair service to the public. He added that the LTO will continue collaborating with law enforcement agencies to hold accountable those who violate their franchise conditions.

The LTO is committed to strengthening the enforcement of public transport regulations, particularly in high passenger volume areas, to ensure that every passenger receives safe and appropriate service.

In a separate statement, the LTO reported that four passenger jeepneys, known as "Patok," were apprehended and impounded during an enforcement operation along Marcos Highway and Sumulong Highway. The operation, conducted from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., found various violations such as defective parts, unauthorized modifications, and the use of unauthorized improvised plate numbers.

Lacanilao reiterated the LTO's commitment to ensuring road safety and not allowing violations that may endanger lives. The agency continues to intensify operations against dangerous and illegal vehicles to promote a safer and more disciplined transportation system.
