Isabela: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) temporarily suspended eight buses operated by Pangasinan Five Star Bus, Inc. (Five Star) after one of its buses was involved in a fatal collision in Isabela province on June 11, 2026. The incident resulted in the death of a pedestrian who was walking along the national highway in front of the Santiago City Medical Center when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza II expressed condolences to the family of the victim and assured that the LTFRB would take all necessary actions to ensure justice and accountability. The crash also injured two bus passengers, and the bus collided with a pickup truck traveling on the opposite side of the road.
The LTFRB issued a show-cause order requiring Five Star to explain in writing why its Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) should not be suspended or revoked due to the incident. The bus driver involved will undergo a mandatory drug test, and the suspended buses will be inspected for roadworthiness.
The investigation aims to determine if Five Star is adhering to road safety regulations, with a hearing scheduled for July 7. Mendoza also requested the bus company to facilitate insurance payments to the family of the deceased and the two injured individuals.
