Manila: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has taken action by summoning two operators of passenger jeepneys accused of using identical license plate numbers. These operators, who serve the Tanauan-Calamba route, are now under scrutiny as part of an ongoing investigation.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza II confirmed that the two jeepney drivers involved were also summoned. This practice of using the same plate number on multiple vehicles is a violation of existing transportation laws and regulations. Mendoza emphasized that such fraudulent activities not only breach vehicle registration laws but also infringe upon the conditions required for obtaining a Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC).
The LTFRB has issued a show cause order (SCO) to the two public utility vehicle (PUV) operators, demanding a notarized written explanation as to why their CPCs should not face suspension or revocation due to the alleged offense. This summons serves as a part of due process, ensuring the accused have the right to be heard.
Operators failing to comply by attending the summons or submitting the required written explanations risk incurring a PHP5,000 fine and the potential revocation of their CPC. Mendoza also warned other PUV operators and drivers against engaging in illegal activities, highlighting the importance of compliance to avoid legal and operational challenges.
