Pangasinan: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has summoned 10 bus and public utility vehicle (PUV) terminal operators in Pangasinan and La Union for alleged safety and comfort violations. The LTFRB, led by Chair Vigor Mendoza II, issued show-cause orders (SCOs) following a surprise inspection spearheaded by LTFRB regional office Director Cristal Sibayan.
According to Philippines News Agency, the inspection revealed several violations, including the absence of roofing, functional comfort rooms, closed-circuit televisions, and security personnel. Additional concerns were raised about the lack of protective facilities for passengers against vehicular traffic and insufficient accessibility amenities for senior citizens and the disabled.
The SCOs targeted four terminals each in Alaminos and Dagupan City in Pangasinan, along with two operators in San Fernando City, La Union. Those summoned are required to provide a written explanation as to why their terminals should not face closure, with a hearing set to further investigate the violations.
Mendoza expressed concern over the widespread nature of these issues across the country. He emphasized the LTFRB's commitment to ensuring terminal operators prioritize passenger comfort and safety, warning that non-compliance could lead to operational shutdowns.
To date, over 120 bus and PUV operators have received SCOs and violation notices as part of the LTFRB's ongoing efforts to address inadequate terminal conditions.
