LTFRB Launches ‘Komyu-Konek’ to Encourage Reporting of PUV Abuses

Manila: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday launched an information drive towards encouraging commuters to report public utility vehicle (PUV)-related abuses.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB chairperson Vigor Mendoza II stated that the program, dubbed 'Komyu-Konek,' aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s mandate to enhance the country's public transport system. Mendoza emphasized the President's directive to improve public transportation so that even car owners would consider commuting, highlighting the importance of aggressive campaigns like 'Komyu-Konek' in achieving this goal.

The program aims to raise public awareness regarding commuters' rights and encourages public cooperation in reporting PUV violations. It will streamline the reporting process and enhance LTFRB's response to reported abuses through various channels, including the LTFRB Hotline 0956-761-0739, Viber, Facebook, and X social media pages. Mendoza reinforced the need for improved transport services by stating, "Passengers deserve more, passengers deserve better transport services."

The LTFRB's initiative focuses on addressing issues with erring PUV drivers, dilapidated vehicles, and terminals with inadequate facilities. Mendoza noted the critical role of public cooperation in achieving the goal of enhancing the public transportation system.

On February 25, the LTFRB summoned 10 additional buses and other PUV terminal operators in Pangasinan and La Union for safety and comfort violations as part of its crackdown on substandard terminals. To date, more than 120 bus and PUV operators have been issued show cause orders and notices of violations as part of LTFRB's intensified operations.
