LRT-2 Expands Complimentary Passenger Parking to Legarda Station

Manila: Passengers of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) may now enjoy free parking at the Legarda Station beginning May 25. In a statement on Thursday, Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the measure is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s order to encourage more vehicle owners to use public transportation amid high fuel prices.

According to Philippines News Agency, the program aims to address traffic congestion as well as reduce overall transportation costs and travel time for commuters. Lopez emphasized that free parking would be a significant benefit as passengers would save money by reducing fuel consumption and also expedite their travel.

The free parking at Legarda Station will be available to LRT-2 passengers daily from 4 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. To avail of the free parking, passengers must get a parking stub from LRTA security personnel at the designated parking area and have it validated at the Passenger Assistance Office of their destination station. The validated stub must then be presented to LRT-2 security personnel upon exit.

In April, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) - the operator of the LRT-2 - began providing complimentary parking to passengers at Santolan Station. The LRTA advised passengers to park only in designated spaces, keep their vehicles locked at all times, and avoid leaving valuables inside their cars.
