LPA Outside Philippine Area of Responsibility Poised to Develop into Cyclone

Manila: The low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the day, according to the weather bureau on Tuesday. Daniel James Villamil of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that the LPA's trough is currently causing rain over the northern and eastern sections of Mindanao.

According to Philippines News Agency, the LPA was positioned 1,370 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao as of 8 a.m. Villamil mentioned that the LPA might enter PAR later this week and, if so, will be named Domeng. "Later today, it will bring rain over most of Mindanao and Palawan," he noted.

Villamil further explained that Metro Manila and the rest of the country would continue to experience generally fair weather, with rain showers and thunderstorms anticipated in the afternoon and evening. However, the primary concern is the potential impact of the weather disturbance on the southwesterly windflow.

The potential cyclone could activate the southwesterly windflow, leading to scattered rains and thunderstorms over Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Soccsksargen, Western Visayas, Negros Island, and Palawan, likely from Thursday to Saturday. Villamil warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides as a result.

PAGASA predicts that the southwesterly windflow will persist over Palawan and the western portions of the Visayas and Mindanao until the weekend. Villamil also mentioned that the potential cyclone may cause moderate to rough seas over the eastern part of the country towards the end of the week.
