Lady Tamaraws Triumph Over Adamson University to Secure SSL Unity Cup Bronze

Manila: Far Eastern University recovered from a second-set loss to conquer Adamson University, 25-22, 17-25, 25-19, 25-20, Saturday and claim the bronze medal in the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Unity Cup at Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila. The Lady Tamaraws finished third for the third straight time.

According to Philippines News Agency, Faida Bakanke, Alyzza Devosora, and Jazzlyn Elarina delivered 12 points each. Setter Tin Ubaldo also came up with 21 excellent sets that helped FEU score 48 attack points. “We talked about how we needed to bring back the feeling we had in the first set. We needed to get that momentum back because in the second set, the morale really dropped,” FEU winger Gerz Petallo, who made five of her eight points in the first frame, said.

The Lady Tamaraws, who won the National Invitational Batangas leg on Aug. 31, were threatened in the fourth set at 20-19 with Francis Mordi’s attack. FEU fought back behind Cla Loresco and Bakanke, while Adamson made crucial errors that allowed the Lady Tamaraws to seal the win after two hours and nine minutes.

“This is a big deal for us, although we still got bronze, we defended the bronze. At least we didn’t become zero. It’s a big deal for the team’s morale going to the UAAP,” said Petallo. League ambassador Shaina Nitura led Adamson with 18 points built on 13 attacks, three blocks, and two aces, followed by Mordi with 13 points and Lhouriz Tuddao with eight points.
