Manila: Defending champion National University defeated Far Eastern University with scores of 25-20, 27-25, 25-21, securing the first finals slot in the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Unity Cup at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
According to Philippines News Agency, skipper Vange Alinsug led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points, comprising nine attacks and two blocks, along with five digs and five excellent receptions. Celine Marsh contributed nine points, ensuring the team’s place in the championship round for the fourth consecutive time. Chams Maaya and Josline Salazar also added eight points each for National University. They will face the winner between the University of Santo Tomas and Adamson University, who were still competing as of the last update.
The best-of-three title series is scheduled to commence on November 8 at Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila. “We cleaned up our moves, and in the second set, that was a test of character for us. This game is very important for us to advance to the finals,” stated Marsh. She emphasized the importance of not relying on their twice-to-beat advantage, suggesting that doing so could boost the opponent’s confidence.
On the other side, Ia David led the Lady Tamaraws with eight points, while Alyzza Devosora followed with seven points. In related news, Adamson standout Shaina Nitura has been named the new SSL Ambassador, taking over from NU alumna and Alas Pilipinas teammate Bella Belen. Nitura’s role will involve participating in SSL campus tours, discussing the role of women in sports, and sharing her volleyball experiences.
