Kanlaon Volcano Erupts Twice, Emitting Ash Plumes

Kanlaon: Kanlaon Volcano erupted twice on Thursday, releasing ash into the atmosphere, as confirmed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

According to Philippines News Agency, the first eruption occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 7:29 a.m., followed by a second eruption from 7:39 a.m. to 8:05 a.m. These eruptions produced grayish ash plumes that ascended to a height of 600 meters.

The volcano remains under Alert Level 2, indicating a moderate level of unrest. Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol mentioned that ash emissions are anticipated under this alert level, as they occur when volcanic gas and pressure are released. This degassing process results in fine, dry materials or ash being expelled from the volcano’s crater.
