Caloocan: Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash again on Wednesday afternoon. The ash emission started at 2:58 p.m. and is ongoing as of writing.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the latest emission generated grayish plumes reaching 900 meters above the crater, drifting northwest. This follows a similar event on Tuesday when the volcano emitted ash, producing plumes that rose 350 meters above the crater.
Alert Level 2, indicating a moderate level of unrest, remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano. Earlier, Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol explained that ash emission is normal and expected for Kanlaon Volcano under Alert Level 2 status. "Ash emissions happen when there's a new release of volcanic gas and pressure," he told the Philippine News Agency in a previous interview. Degassing brings fine and dry materials or ash that can be found on the volcano's crater, he said.
