Bacolod city: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is in the final stages of preparing the Kanlaon Recovery and Rehabilitation Development Plan (KRRDP), aimed at supporting local government units (LGUs) affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.
According to Philippines News Agency, Adrian Sedillo, the provincial head of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), shared insights from his conversation with Undersecretary Harold Cabreros, the Civil Defense Administrator. Cabreros revealed details of the plan during a meeting with Capitol officials. The plan is scheduled for presentation on Friday in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
Cabreros informed provincial officials about the available funding from the General Appropriations Act designated for this rehabilitation initiative, though specifics on the allocation for the LGUs were not disclosed. Among the LGUs impacted by Mt. Kanlaon's activity are La Carlota City and La Castellana in Negros Occidental, as well as Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.
Sedillo mentioned that while the KRRDP primarily addresses the consequences of the volcano's recent eruptions, provincial officials also inquired about the inclusion of Canlaon City for rehabilitation and recovery from the destruction caused by Typhoon Tino. The typhoon resulted in catastrophic flooding, leading to over 20 fatalities in the mountain city last November.
In response to this request, the OCD official showed a positive inclination and agreed to consider the suggestion to incorporate the restoration of infrastructure damaged by Typhoon Tino in Canlaon City into the KRRDP.
