Manila: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD), representing the Ipo Dam Management, has announced the scheduled commencement of water spilling operations at Ipo Dam, set to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the advisory sent to reporters emphasized the planned initial operation, which will involve the opening of Radial Gate A by 15 cm. This action is expected to result in a spill rate of approximately 35 cubic meters per second (cms). The advisory, issued by OCD Assistant Secretary Bernardo Alejandro IV, highlights the necessity of these operations due to the continuous rise in the dam's water level, influenced by the intensified southwest monsoon, locally known as 'habagat'.

The OCD further communicated that local government units in Angat, Bustos, San Rafael, Baliwag, Plaridel, Pulilan, Calumpit, Paombong, Hagonoy, Malolos, and Bulacan province have been duly informed to take appropriate and necessary actions in response to the situation. Residents and officials in these areas are urged to remain vigilant, monitor official communications, and implement precautionary measures, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone regions.
