Manila: Workers affected by high petroleum prices due to tensions in the Middle East can now avail themselves of the Department of Labor and Employment's Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP). This initiative aims to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities or capital to start new businesses for those impacted by the escalating costs.
According to Philippines News Agency, DOLE spokesperson Lennard Serrano highlighted that the program offers livelihood options that align with the beneficiaries' preferences and abilities. Speaking at a televised public forum, Serrano explained that the initiative focuses on sustainability and community relevance. Examples of the livelihood projects include Nego-Karts and fishing activities, particularly benefiting those in the agriculture sector.
Serrano emphasized the importance of orienting beneficiaries to assess their skills and community needs. He described the DILP as a social protection program implemented alongside TUPAD, which stands for Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers. While TUPAD provides emergency employment assistance, the DILP focuses on offering livelihood project support to marginalized, vulnerable, and displaced workers.
