Miagao: The municipality of Miagao in the south of Iloilo inaugurated its PHP180 million, modern, solar-powered five-story building on Monday. Mayor Richard Garin announced that the new building is equipped with solar panels, internet connection, alarm system, earthquake detector, and disaster risk reduction monitoring covering the whole municipality, including the barangays.
According to Philippines News Agency, PHP140 million of the funds for the construction came from the national government, facilitated by Iloilo 1st District Rep. Janette Garin, while PHP40 million was sourced from the local government. The building boasts a 100-watt solar panel for energy savings, alongside a generator with a 500 kVA capacity, ensuring uninterrupted power.
The structure is designed to accommodate a range of municipal functions. The fifth floor includes a canteen and an open conference area for up to 120 people. The fourth floor houses legislative and legal offices, the liaison office of Congresswoman Garin, and an executive lounge. The third floor features a conference room for 50 people, and the second floor is designated for board meetings. On the ground floor, the assessors and treasurer's offices are located.
In a nod to the municipality's history, the design of the new building maintains the facade of the old structure. Mayor Garin emphasized the importance of remembering past administrations while advancing towards a modern environment. The offices in the new building have fewer dividers, and each table is clearly marked with the names of employees to enhance transparency for the public.
