Iloilo City Police Issue Warning on Unauthorized Rallies Amid ASEAN Meeting

Iloilo city: The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has issued a reminder to the public regarding the strict enforcement of the "no permit, no rally" policy during the EDSA People Power Revolution commemoration. This event coincides with the city's hosting of the 49th ASEAN High-Level Task Force Meeting on Economic Integration.

According to Philippines News Agency, the ICPO announced on Monday that security deployment plans have been finalized to ensure the safe and peaceful conduct of any mass protests or demonstrations. The police force will strategically deploy personnel, mobile patrol units, and Civil Disturbance Management contingents to manage unauthorized mass actions or disruptions that could threaten public safety and order.

Col. Wilbert Parilla, the ICPO officer-in-charge, emphasized the importance of public cooperation, particularly from those planning activities that may breach the law. He stated, "I urge the public, especially those planning activities that may violate the law, to exercise courtesy and respect toward authorities. The ICPO will not hesitate to take appropriate action against anyone who breaks the law."

In an effort to maintain order, Parilla has instructed all unit and station commanders to remain vigilant and aim for zero major incidents in the city. Additionally, the ICPO reminded the public that the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR) is suspended in the city from February 20 until March 1. Only law enforcement personnel performing official duties in uniform are permitted to carry firearms outside their residences during this period.

Moreover, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's emergency operations center has been placed on red alert status in preparation for the ASEAN meeting from February 25-27. This alert status is intended to ensure continuous monitoring and readiness for any eventualities during the meeting.
