Manila: The local government here has formalized the home ownership of 517 beneficiaries at the San Juan Villanueva-Sian Housing Site in Molo District. With the recent signing of the contract to sell, beneficiaries are now presented with an opportunity to gradually acquire ownership of their lots through terms that cater to their needs.
According to Philippines News Agency, the housing site was initially acquired by the local government in 1992 as an on-site relocation area. During the signing ceremony, Mayor Raisa Tre±as emphasized the importance of housing in achieving the city's vision. The contract stipulates that beneficiaries will purchase their lots at PHP200 per square meter, plus a share for communal areas, paying PHP350 monthly until the total is settled within 10 years.
In a Tuesday interview, Tre±as highlighted housing as a priority for the city government. She mentioned the existence of six housing projects, including rental and socialized units, with plans for completion within the next 10 months. The city aims to allocate housing units to eligible applicants by December.
Tre±as assured that the housing projects are designed to be inclusive, catering not only to those without homes but also to the emerging middle class and hardworking Ilonggos. These projects aim to support individuals starting their careers and families, ensuring a secure home environment.
