Ilocos: The school divisions' management in the Ilocos Region is set to determine whether Saturday classes or alternative learning modes will suffice to compensate for school days missed due to recent calamities.

According to Philippines News Agency, Department of Education (DepEd) Ilocos Region Director Dr. Estela Cari±o stated in an interview that the decision-making process would involve the school division superintendents, principals, and teachers in assessing the need for make-up classes. Dr. Cari±o pointed out that circumstances vary across different schools, impacting their ability to implement alternative learning modes.

In areas such as Calasiao, Pangasinan, where flooding has affected homes, the use of modules for alternative learning is not feasible. Dr. Cari±o mentioned that in these cases, some schools might choose to conduct in-person make-up classes to ensure that learners do not fall behind.

She also highlighted that the decision regarding the number of make-up days should be a decentralized one, tailored to the specific needs of each school. Parents are also given the option to teach their children at home instead of attending Saturday make-up classes if they prefer.
