Iligan City Unveils Modernized Disaster Response Equipment

Iligan city: The Iligan City government has taken significant strides in enhancing its disaster response capabilities through an ongoing upgrade and modernization initiative aimed at improving rescue and disaster response operations. On Wednesday, Mayor Frederick Siao officiated the handover of a Type 1 ambulance, valued at approximately PHP1.5 million, to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Iligan City Fire Station.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Siao highlighted the ambulance’s role in strengthening support for firefighters, particularly during instances when the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (ICDRRMO) is occupied with other emergency situations. Mayor Siao has pledged to bolster the BFP with additional allowances and funding from the local government during his tenure.

Furthermore, the ICDRRMO is undergoing significant enhancements, focusing on equipment modernization and responder training, following an assessment of the recent Cebu earthquake incident. Armien Aloro, chief of the CDRRMO, noted that requests have been made for more closed-circuit televisions and specialized drones for improved monitoring. Additionally, responders and volunteers will benefit from a “Resilience 101” special program designed to enhance their preparedness and response skills.
