Manila: The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has announced that it has issued a subpoena for missing former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co, requiring his appearance before the commission.
According to Philippines News Agency, ICI Executive Director Brian Keith Hosaka informed reporters that the subpoena was delivered to Co’s “last known address in Pasig and Bicol.” The subpoena, dated October 20, mandates Co’s presence at hearings scheduled for November 11 and 12. Co was initially summoned to face the commission on October 8.
The former chairperson of the House Appropriations Committee is facing accusations related to receiving kickbacks from flood control projects deemed questionable. During the time the alleged irregularities in public works projects surfaced, Co was reportedly in the United States for medical treatment. On September 29, Co tendered his resignation from the House of Representatives.
In a related development, Hosaka clarified that the ICI has not extended an invitation to Senator Christopher “Bong” Go to testify before the commission. This clarification comes in light of reports where former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that Go refused an invitation from the ICI. Hosaka stated, “No invitation has been sent by the commission to Senator Bong Go to appear as resource person.”
