Antique: A civil society organization in Antique will mark the National Heroes’ Day celebration in the province by holding a Heroes’ Run to raise funds for school supplies for learners from an upland barangay of Tobias Fornier town.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Antique Cavers and Trekkers Society (ACTS) will organize a seven-kilometer run on August 25, in collaboration with the Dao Running Club, in Barangay Danawan, Tobias Fornier. This location is historically significant as it hosted a Japanese camp during World War II.
‘We will be holding a program as a reminder to the people about our ancestors’ struggle for freedom from the foreign invasion in the Barangay Danawan,’ said ACTS vice president Pio Jessielito Sumande Sr. in an interview on Tuesday.
The registration fee for the event is PHP250, which includes a t-shirt, and PHP100, for those who opt out of the t-shirt. Students can participate for free.
While the organizers have not set a specific fundraising target, all proceeds will be used to purchase school supplies for 52 learners from Danawan Elementary School.
