Government Prepares for Super Typhoon Rosal and Considers Heat-Related Work Suspension

Manila:The government has assured the public of its readiness to handle the impact of Super Typhoon Rosal, with relevant agencies poised to implement disaster response operations.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Department of Health (DOH) are all prepared to respond to the approaching typhoon. Castro expressed optimism that the rains from Rosal could help alleviate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon in drought-affected regions, and advised residents in areas expecting heavy rainfall to collect and store water.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported in its 11 a.m. bulletin that Rosal is moving west-northwestward over the sea east of Northern Luzon at 25 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 215 kph and gusts of up to 265 kph.

In another development, Castro mentioned that the government is considering a proposal to suspend work when the heat index reaches 40 degrees Celsius. This measure is being studied due to safety and comfort concerns amid the intense El Niño conditions. Castro emphasized the importance of assessing the situation to ensure the well-being of citizens accustomed to the hot weather, especially during the dry season.
