Gingoog city: The local government of Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental will prioritize safety precautions in schools following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit southwestern Mindanao on Monday, Mayor Erick Ca±osa said Tuesday. Ca±osa stated that city departments and government agencies reported most buildings are structurally safe, with only minor ceiling cracks in one public school.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ca±osa mentioned that the affected school building is under limited use and repairs will be funded. He also confirmed that classes in all levels will resume on Wednesday. Department of Education Division Superintendent Dr. Edgardo Abanil assured that all schools were accounted for and inspected, with almost all school buildings remaining sturdy.
City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head Marlon Pajo reported that only one school building showed a minimal crack in the ceiling, while some structures had "hairline cracks." He highlighted the improvement in the city's structures compared to a similar earthquake that occurred in October 2025.
Gingoog City experienced an Intensity IV earthquake on Monday, which is classified as "moderately strong" under the guidelines of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
