Ilocos norte: In rural communities like a sub-village of Monte in this town, where electricity remains difficult to access, the simple gift of light continues to bring hope, convenience, and new possibilities to families here.

According to Philippines News Agency, Shirley Sapigao, 42, expressed gratitude for the government's assistance and the efforts of the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) during the ceremonial sitio energization of 53 households in Paoay and 31 in Batac City on Thursday. For Sapigao and the other 83 household beneficiaries, access to a reliable source of light is more than a comfort. It changes the way they live, learn, and work.

Wilfredo Tutaan shared his relief, stating that his home will no longer be referred to as a haunted house now that it is finally connected to the grid after seven years. Tutaan highlighted that the electrification efforts have reached his remote residence in Barangay Colo, Batac City, which had long depended on candles, kerosene lamps, or battery-powered lights after sunset. Reliable electricity is a significant aid to his grandchildren, enabling them to finish their homework after dark. For parents, it also means having more time to complete household chores or pursue livelihood activities, while for elderly family members, it provides safety during nighttime.

The ongoing rural electrification program, supported by INEC, aims to provide reliable electricity connections across the province. Cipriano Martinez III, INEC general manager, emphasized the cooperative's commitment, stating that every Filipino home deserves the dignity of light, which ultimately represents a gift of opportunity. Martinez pledged to bridge the gap between remote villages and the rest of Ilocos Norte as a tribute to the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., who was instrumental in rural electrification.

Despite geographic challenges, INEC's current management is determined to ensure that distance does not become a permanent barrier to basic services. As electrification efforts continue to reach communities across the province, the overarching message is clear: No matter how remote the home, every family deserves a chance to live, learn, and dream beyond the limits of darkness.
