Fuel Prices Surge by PHP1 Per Liter in Select Areas Amid International Market Changes

Manila: Oil prices are set to climb by up to PHP1 per liter Tuesday morning, continuing a trend of weekly increases, except for some areas. In separate advisories, Seaoil, Jetti Petroleum, and Petron said gasoline prices will increase by PHP0.50/L and diesel by PHP1/L effective 6 a.m.

According to Philippines News Agency, the adjustments reflect the movement on prices of refined fuel products, freight, and market premiums in the international market, as stated by Jetti Petroleum. Caltex will also increase prices of the said products by the same amount but effective 6:01 a.m. of the same date.

This marks the sixth consecutive week of gasoline price hikes and the third for diesel. In a Viber message to journalists on Monday, Jetti Petroleum President Leo Bellas attributed the hike in fuel prices to a significant increase in the premium for gasoline due to firm regional demand amid tight supply as regional refineries undergo turnarounds.

Last week, gasoline prices rose by PHP1.70 per liter, diesel by PHP2.70 per liter, and kerosene by PHP2.10 per liter. However, the price of kerosene will not be adjusted due to the government’s declaration of a state of national calamity, according to advisories from Seaoil, Caltex, and Petron.

Jetti Petroleum also announced that it will not implement the price hikes in the provinces of Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Negros Occidental, Cebu, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Iloilo, as well as the Bicol Region.
