Davao city: The city health office has announced a free measles-rubella vaccination campaign running from January 19 to February 13, with the goal of vaccinating approximately 154,000 children.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dr. Annaliza Malubay, the medical coordinator of the City Health Office's national immunization program, noted that the campaign aims to achieve at least 95 percent coverage to ensure community protection. This initiative comes despite Davao City recording zero measles cases in 2025. Dr. Malubay emphasized the importance of intensifying the vaccination efforts due to the influx of children from other regions, not just those residing in Davao.
Vaccination teams are scheduled to be deployed daily across all districts, satellite health centers, and communities to reach children aged six months to 59 months. Parents are encouraged to coordinate with village health workers for the vaccination process.
Measles is known for its high contagion rate, with the potential for one infected individual to spread the virus to 12 to 18 others, highlighting the necessity of widespread vaccination efforts.
