Four School Buildings Deemed Unsafe in Butuan City After Earthquake

Butuan city: The city government announced on Tuesday that out of 39 local school buildings assessed so far, four have been deemed unsafe following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that affected most of Mindanao on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the city's Public Information Office (PIO) also noted that of the total school buildings inspected, 25 were found safe and 10 had minor damage. The PIO stated, "Four school buildings were also found with major damage and were recommended to be unsafe."

The statement added that the members of the audit team from the city government will continue their assessment on Tuesday in 53 more schools in the city. "Two individuals were also reported injured when the strong earthquake struck," the PIO said.

It was noted that the result of the inspection will serve as the basis for determining when the inspected buildings will be used before the students are allowed to return to classes. As of Tuesday, classes at all levels in Butuan City remain suspended.
