Rome: Over 36,000 runners, including Filipinos mostly based in Europe, are set to participate in the Acea Run Rome the Marathon 2026 on March 22. Organizers confirmed the record attendance from 130 countries during the presentation of the event at Sala della Protomoteca in The Campidoglio.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ireland-based Filipino ultra runner Jivee Tolentino expressed his readiness for the 31st edition of this much-anticipated annual race, themed 'One distance. Eight cities. Many cultures. One shared European identity.' Tolentino, participating for the second time, aims to stay resilient and focused, embracing the challenges to achieve his goals. He has prepared for the race by running daily and maintaining a diet rich in vegetables and fruits.
Italy-based Modena Joel Marasigan shared his growing excitement for the event. Marasigan is eager to see fellow runners from across Europe and the world. Despite the difficulties posed by the cold winter months, Marasigan emphasized the importance of time management for overseas Filipino workers like himself, ensuring he is well-prepared for the race.
Organizers highlighted that the Run Rome the Marathon is part of a unified event with seven other iconic European Marathons, including those in Vienna, London, Madrid, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Lisbon, and Frankfurt. In addition to the marathon, Filipino participants will join road races and community fun runs.
Philippine Ambassador to Italy Nathaniel Imperial extended his wishes for success to the Filipino participants, reaffirming the Embassy's commitment to support activities that promote wellness, excellence, and cultural visibility.
