Kathmandu: One Filipino national is among the over 500 foreign nationals reported missing following a deadly flash flood that swept through villages and trekking routes in Nepal on August 26, the Nepal Tourism Board announced on Thursday. The catastrophic event has left a trail of destruction and uncertainty for many families and communities.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Nepal Tourism Board's report revealed that 644 travelers remain unaccounted for. This includes the Filipino national, 127 Nepali citizens, and 516 individuals from 31 other countries, including Australia, Canada, India, Germany, Singapore, Japan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The agency emphasized that the information is being meticulously verified and cross-checked in collaboration with travel agencies, guides, local authorities, and security agencies.
Currently, no further details regarding the identity of the missing Filipino have been released, but authorities are actively working to ascertain their whereabouts and safety status. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has yet to confirm the report, leaving many awaiting official updates.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the devastating flash floods has risen to 162 as of Thursday morning, underscoring the severity of the natural disaster.
