Quezon city: Far Eastern University demolished University of the Philippines, 4-0, Saturday night to stay perfect in the UAAP Season 88 women’s football at UP Diliman Football Stadium in Quezon City.
According to Philippines News Agency, Judie Arevalo scored in the third minute, her sixth goal of the season, tying Ateneo de Manila University’s Jada Bicierro for the tournament lead. The other Lady Tamaraws who delivered were Marienelle Cristobal (44th minute), Regine Rebosura (49th), and Saraghen Tulabing (90th).
Assistant coach Fitch Arboleda, who took over for head coach Let Dimzon due to illness, noted the performance of the team. “Well, we gave our starters the chance to score goals, but the others lacked focus. Again, we still have a few games, so hopefully they can score more goals,” Arboleda said.
Goalkeeper Paula Artillo made her debut for FEU with a clean sheet, starting in place of Jessa Lehayan. The Lady Tamaraws, who have already secured the first final berth, now have 18 points and a +16 goal difference. “The mindset is still the same since coach Let is a competitive coach. We don’t want to relax. We still want to fight until the end,” Arboleda added.
UP’s Nicole Narido nearly scored a consolation goal in the 74th minute, but Artillo produced a timely save. The Fighting Maroons are at the bottom of the table with zero points and a -15 goal difference.
Meanwhile, the battle for the second final slot remains tight, with De La Salle holding 12 points, just one ahead of third-running Ateneo. They will meet on Nov. 5 at the UP Diliman pitch. Other matches pit UP against University of Santo Tomas and FEU against De La Salle University.
