FDA Oversees Recall of Select Nestl© Infant Formula Products

Manila: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday announced it is actively overseeing and validating the voluntary recall initiated by Nestl© Philippines involving specific batches of NAN OPTIPRO and NANKID OPTIPRO infant formula products. This action is taken as a precautionary measure following the identification of a potential safety and quality concern.

According to Philippine News Agency, the voluntary recall was prompted by a reported incident involving a raw material from the manufacturer's supplier. The FDA clarified that while there are currently no established food safety or regulatory limits for the raw material identified, an investigation is ongoing to determine the scope of the issue and assess any potential safety implications.

The FDA is closely coordinating with the manufacturer to verify the specific affected batches and ensure the prompt and complete removal of recalled products from both physical and online retail outlets. Distribution and communication checks are also being conducted to confirm that recall measures are effectively implemented throughout the supply chain.

At present, the FDA has not received any reports of illness or adverse events linked to the recalled products. Despite the absence of reported cases, the agency supports the precautionary recall to safeguard public health, particularly that of infants and young children.

The FDA advised consumers to carefully check product batch numbers, immediately stop using any affected products, and strictly follow the recall instructions issued by the manufacturer. An official FDA advisory will be released to provide further guidance and updates to the public.

Meanwhile, the agency will continue to conduct post-market surveillance, inspections, and product assessments to ensure that all regulated products in the market meet established safety and quality standards.
