Farm School Provides Hands-On Agricultural Training for Learners in Antique

Antique: A farm school in Antique devotes two hours daily to teaching learners how to plant vegetables, fruits, and other crops as part of their hands-on training. The Aningalan Integrated Farm School (AIFS) in Barangay Aningalan in San Remegio municipality is the only farm school in Antique, with 234 learners, since it started in 2021.

According to Philippines News Agency, learners are immersed for at least two hours a day, especially on the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) subject in the secondary level, to learn agriculture and crop management, as stated by school head Jocelyn Gatila in an interview. The school is hopeful that their first batch of graduates would be interested in pursuing agriculture courses or engaging in agriculture-related activities.

Barangay Aningalan is recognized as a premier tourism destination in Antique. Its cool climate is conducive to planting high-value crops. The Department of Agriculture has set up greenhouses in the area where high-value crops like lettuce, strawberries, and peppers are cultivated. These greenhouses also serve as a learning site for learners enrolled in the farm school in the same barangay.
