Fare Increase Announced for Guimaras-Iloilo City Vessels

Guimaras: Vessels operating between Guimaras and Iloilo City have announced a PHP10 increase in fare for regular passengers, raising the cost from PHP30 to PHP40. This change affects routes from Buenavista to Iloilo City and Jordan to Iloilo City, as stated by the provincial government.

According to Philippines News Agency, the decision was made after a consultative meeting led by Guimaras Governor Ma. Lucille Nava and Lone District Representative JC Rahman Nava. The meeting included local government units, the Maritime Industry Authority in Western Visayas (MARINA-6), and representatives from several transport operators such as Bamosa Marine Transport Corporation and Guimaras Island Transport Multipurpose Cooperative.

The provincial government reported, "After careful consideration and extensive discussion, the provincial government and ferry operators reached an agreement to implement a standardized fare of PHP40 for regular passengers, from PHP30." The fare for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities will be set at PHP32.

Bamosa Marine Transport Corporation began implementing the new fare on Tuesday, while other operators plan to adjust their rates 14 days after the new rates are posted. Rising operational costs, crew wage adjustments, and adherence to MARINA safety guidelines were key factors in the fare hike decision.

The provincial government also requested MARINA to conduct a comprehensive study on fare structures to provide data-driven insights for future adjustments. Additionally, there is a push for the prompt renewal of vessel documentation to ensure adequate transportation options are available for commuters, especially during peak times like Holy Week and the summer season.
