Ex-NPA Medic and Vice Commander Surrender in Agusan Norte

Buenavista: Three New People's Army rebels surrendered to the Army's 23rd Infantry Battalion (IB) in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte on Christmas Eve. The individuals, identified as former medic alias Liza, former vice commander alias Dagsa, and member alias Longlong, were part of different NPA platoons and committees, according to reports from the battalion on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the surrender is part of the Philippine Army's ongoing efforts to promote peace, security, and inclusive development. Lt. Col. Glennford Libre, the commander of the 23rd Infantry Battalion, emphasized that the rebels also turned over an M16A1 rifle along with ammunition during their surrender. Libre credited the successful surrender to sustained intelligence operations and focused engagement by the military.

The 23rd Infantry Battalion has assured that the former rebels will be treated in accordance with the law and will be enrolled in government reintegration programs. This initiative is aimed at facilitating their transition back into society and supporting the broader goals of peace and development in the region.
