Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that the success of ongoing US-Iran negotiations is contingent upon the complete execution of agreed commitments, underscoring that remarks made outside the agreed framework are counterproductive to the advancement of the talks.
According to Philippines News Agency,Pezeshkian communicated via the US social media platform X, affirming, "The effectiveness of the talks (with the US) depends on full commitment to the agreed obligations and their precise implementation." He further stated that the progress of the negotiations would be assessed based on practical adherence to the responsibilities that both parties have accepted.
Pezeshkian's statements followed the recent US-Iran discussions held at the Swiss resort of Burgenstock under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding framework. The negotiations are part of a broader initiative to resolve conflicts and outstanding disputes between the two nations through dialogue. On June 14, Iran and the US announced they had reached a 14-point understanding mediated by Pakistan, with the aim of ending hostilities and addressing key issues.
The Islamabad Understanding, which officially came into effect on June 18 after being electronically signed by both Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump, outlines measures to end conflicts, including those in Lebanon, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and lift the US naval blockade on Iran.
