EDSA Rehabilitation Project Reaches 60% Completion, Enhancements Planned for Pedestrians and Cyclists

Manila: The rehabilitation of the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) is now 60 percent complete, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon announced Thursday. Following an inspection of the project, Dizon said the first phase of the rehabilitation has reached the 60-percent mark three months after construction began in December 2025.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon expressed that the project aims to make EDSA safer and more accessible for both pedestrians and commuters by expanding sidewalks along key sections of the major thoroughfare. Dizon highlighted the risks faced by commuters on EDSA, stating, "So many are commuting in EDSA. This is life-threatening since there is no sidewalk, people are walking on the road. It's really dangerous."

The initiative to expand sidewalks and include bike lanes aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to transform EDSA into a commuter-centric and pedestrian-friendly corridor. The ongoing works include asphalt overlay and concrete reblocking along portions of the highway.

The second phase of the rehabilitation project, which covers the Orense to Cubao stretch, is set to begin immediately after the completion of the initial phase. The Department of Public Works and Highways has also announced its next major road project after the EDSA rehabilitation, which will be the upgrading of Circumferential Road 5 (C-5 Road), connecting the cities of Taguig, Pasig, Quezon City, and Las Pi±as.
