Easterlies to Bring Isolated Rains; LPA Likely to Develop into Cyclone

Manila: Several areas in the Visayas and Mindanao will continue to experience rains caused by the easterlies, the weather bureau said on Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, in its 4 a.m. weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that Eastern Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental are expected to experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The weather bureau also mentioned that localized thunderstorms will bring isolated rain showers to Metro Manila and other parts of the country. Severe thunderstorms could lead to flash floods or landslides.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail across the archipelago, added PAGASA. Meanwhile, a low pressure area (LPA) was identified outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

The LPA, located 3,070 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao as of 2 a.m., has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez indicated that the LPA would enhance the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, resulting in rains across most parts of the country.
