Manila: Senator Francis Escudero on Friday emphasized that early detection and clear public advisories are essential strategies in defending against the Nipah virus. He urged health and border authorities to ensure that surveillance and preparedness systems remain fully active.
According to Philippines News Agency, Escudero stated that although the current health advisories indicate that the Philippines is at low risk, authorities should remain vigilant and proactively monitor the situation. He underscored that early detection and transparent reporting are the strongest defenses against emerging health threats.
He called upon the Department of Health and the Bureau of Quarantine to keep border health protocols fully operational. This includes implementing thermal scanning, monitoring symptoms, and providing clear guidance to arriving passengers to prevent the entry and spread of high-risk pathogens.
Escudero further stressed the importance of strong inter-agency coordination among health, transport, and local government units. Such coordination is vital to ensure the timely sharing of information and effective responses to potential threats.
Additionally, Escudero highlighted the significance of clear and consistent public advisories in preventing misinformation and maintaining public confidence. He noted that calm and factual communication helps the public understand risks without inducing panic.
