Manila: Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III on Monday called upon his colleagues in the House of Representatives to put aside divisive politics and prioritize public service and delivering tangible results for the Filipino populace. In his address during the resumption of House sessions, Dy emphasized that the legislators' true accountability is to the public.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dy reminded fellow lawmakers that their efforts should be dedicated to elevating the quality of service and enacting meaningful legislation that impacts Filipino families tangibly. "Ilaan natin ang ating lakas, oras, at kakayahan sa pagtaas ng antas ng serbisyo para sa ating mga mamamayan at paggawa ng mga batas na makabuluhan-mga batas na hindi lamang maganda sa papel, kundi ramdam ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino," he stated.
The Speaker from Isabela underscored that political differences should never overshadow the paramount duty of serving the public. He urged unity among lawmakers to serve the Filipino people with honesty and dedication, despite differing political viewpoints.
Dy also pressed the importance of making full use of legislative time and sessions, highlighting the urgency of their work. He called for collaboration among House members, urging them to prioritize the welfare of future generations and the nation over personal interests.
In addition, Dy encouraged his fellow legislators to tackle long-standing political reforms, including the anti-political dynasty law, with courage, honesty, and sincerity. He stressed that reform should focus on fairness and equal opportunities for all Filipinos, advocating for open and sincere discussions on previously avoided issues.
The anti-dynasty discussion, according to Dy, is part of a broader effort to address systemic failures that have long affected the public. He highlighted the necessity of confronting entrenched political practices to rebuild public trust and fortify democratic institutions.
Dy, alongside Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander "Sandro" Marcos, authored House Bill 6771, known as the Anti Political Dynasty Act. The House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reform is scheduled to begin hearings on the proposed legislation this coming Tuesday.
