Dy Highlights Faith and Women’s Empowerment as Foundations for a Stronger Philippines

Manila: Speaker Faustino Dy III emphasized the significance of religious freedom, women's empowerment, and inclusive economic growth as foundational elements for a robust and unified Philippines. Dy's remarks were made during the House of Representatives' commemoration of World Hijab Day and the opening of the Halal Festival at the Batasang Pambansa.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dy highlighted World Hijab Day as a reminder of the respect deserved by identity and faith in a nation shaped by diversity and mutual understanding. He noted that for many Muslim women, the hijab is a symbol of conviction and personal choice, reflecting faith, self-worth, and confidence. Dy underscored that respecting religion and culture is tantamount to respecting human dignity, crucial in a diverse country like the Philippines.

Dy also focused on the empowerment of women, emphasizing their essential role in shaping society and fostering equitable communities. He stated that when women can freely express themselves without fear of discrimination, communities become stronger and more compassionate, offering equal opportunities for all.

Furthermore, Dy pointed out the economic aspect of inclusion, particularly for Muslim Filipino communities. He mentioned that the Halal Festival highlights the economic opportunities that arise from a halal-friendly environment, which supports micro, small, and medium enterprises and enhances trade, allowing Muslim Filipino communities to engage more fully in national growth.

He praised the efforts of the Committee on Muslim Affairs, led by Maguindanao del Norte Rep. Sittie Shahara 'Bai Dimple' Mastura, and government partners for their collaborative work grounded in respect and understanding. Dy reaffirmed the House's commitment to enacting laws that protect freedoms and promote equality. He stressed that these goals are part of a unified vision for a stronger, more united Philippines.

Dy concluded by encouraging Filipinos to view diversity as a source of national strength rather than a barrier, with the ultimate objective of creating a society where every Filipino is recognized, heard, and able to thrive.
