DTI-11 logs more qualified biz for ‘Bagwis Seal’ award

From only 25 awardees in 2020, the Department of Trade and Industry in Davao Region (DTI-11) said at least 33 business establishments here qualify for 2021 Bagwis Seal.

Bagwis Award aims to encourage business establishments to consistently adhere to the existing fair trade laws (FTLs) and become more responsible in their operation.

DTI-11 Director Maria Belenda Ambi said Tuesday the Bagwis award signifies that the awardees have met the qualifications and the set standards in upholding the rights and welfare of consumers.

“This is alongside their constant practice of responsible business operation where consumers get the best value for money,” Ambi said.

She said the award, tentatively scheduled for July or August this year, is also the agency’s way of showing appreciation to the business sector for being an ally in promoting consumer protection.

“Protecting consumers is everyone’s business. Whether you are a microentrepreneur or a multinational firm, you have the responsibility to institutionalize mechanisms on how to satisfy your customers,” Ambi said.

One criteria for the award, she said, is the establishment's handling of consumer complaints and implementing a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program in the community.

The Bagwis Award is open to supermarkets, department and specialty stores, appliance centers, hardware shops, and DTI-accredited service and repair shops.
