DSWD to Showcase Filipino Culture in ASEAN ASCC Meeting

Makati city: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is preparing to host the 2026 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) council meetings at The Peninsula Manila in Makati City from March 2-6. Assistant Secretary Juan Carlo Marquez of the DSWD's Policy and Planning Group assured the public of their readiness to welcome ASEAN senior officials and ministers.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marquez emphasized the meticulous preparation led by Secretary Rex Gatchalian, highlighting his hands-on approach and attention to detail. The ASCC meetings will also offer an opportunity to showcase the Philippines' rich history and culture through heritage tours for ASEAN member delegates.

The meetings are not limited to formal sessions; the DSWD plans to highlight Filipino food and tourism. Delegates can expect gastronomic and heritage tours, with participation from ministers and senior officials. These tours aim to provide a broader understanding of Filipino culture and heritage beyond the meeting agenda.

The DSWD has also arranged performances by Filipino dancers and singers for the welcome and gala dinners, featuring children's choirs and local singers to showcase Filipino talent. The Philippines will present a variety of regional cuisines, including dishes from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

In consideration of the Ramadan period during the council meetings, special arrangements have been made for Muslim delegates, including the setup of male and female prayer rooms and accommodating dietary restrictions. The DSWD has taken great care to respect cultural sensitivities and ensure all delegates feel welcome and comfortable.
